Assistant Professor Fikret BAŞKAN

Assistant Professor Fikret Başkan is a neurosurgeon at Biruni University Faculty of Medicine Hospital.

He completed his undergraduate medical education at Karadeniz Technical University in 2001 and his specialty training in Neurosurgery at İzmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital in 2009, where he trained between 2004 and 2010. His doctoral thesis focused on the clinical and radiological evaluation of surgically treated vestibular schwannomas.

His professional experience includes compulsory service at Ağrı State Hospital (2010-2011), followed by positions at Arnavutköy State Hospital (2011-2012), Bakırköy Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital (2012-2014), Istanbul Kanuni Training and Research Hospital (2015-2020) and Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital (2020-2024), all affiliated with the University of Health Sciences.

He has been working in the field of pediatric neurosurgery for nine years, completed the Pediatric Neurosurgery Teaching and Training Group certification program and joined the Department of Neurosurgery of Biruni University as a faculty member in 2024.

His clinical interests include pediatric neurosurgery, neurooncological surgery, spina bifida and congenital anomalies, hydrocephalus and spine and spinal cord surgery. He is a member of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society, its Pediatric Neurosurgery Group and the Turkish Medical Association.
