A Complete Guide to Recovery After Orthopedic Surgery
March 21, 2025
## Why Rehabilitation Is Just as Important as Surgery
In orthopedic surgery, the technical success of the procedure accounts for only half of the treatment. The other half is a correctly timed, personalized rehabilitation program.
## Stages of Rehabilitation
### Early Phase (0–6 Weeks)
- Edema and pain management
- Passive range-of-motion exercises
- Safe mobilization with crutches or a walker
### Mid Phase (6–12 Weeks)
- Muscle strengthening exercises begin
- Regaining walking balance
- Gradual return to daily activities
### Late Phase (3–6 Months)
- Return to sport and intensive physical activity
- Proprioceptive (balance) exercises
- Vocational rehabilitation
## Rehabilitation at Biruni Orthopedics Center
Our physical therapy unit is housed in the same building as the operating theaters, meaning patients can start their rehabilitation program the day after surgery. A "remote follow-up" protocol is also available for international patients.
