Dr. Sedat Ofluoğlu is a nuclear medicine specialist and flight surgeon at Biruni University Hospital, where he also serves as President of the Aviation Medical Center (AeMC). His practice bridges two fields: diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine on one side, and aviation and aerospace medicine on the other, including fitness-for-duty examinations for flight crew.
He graduated from Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. Between 1997 and 2002 he completed his specialist training in nuclear medicine at the University of Vienna, with his qualification recognised through the equivalency process at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2002. In 2005 he obtained his Aviation Medicine Certificate through DGCA training at Eskişehir Air Hospital.
Dr. Ofluoğlu began his career as a general practitioner at Mezraa Health Center and Private Vatan Hospital between 1992 and 1997, before moving to Vienna as a resident physician in the Department of Nuclear Medicine. Since 2002 he has worked as a nuclear medicine specialist at German Hospital, Italian Hospital, GOP Taksim Training and Research Hospital, Medical Park Florya, Liv Hospital Bahçeşehir and Istanbul Oncology Hospital. He has practised as a flight surgeon since 2005, at German Hospital, Private Family Hospital and Biruni University Hospital, and has led the Aviation Medical Center since 2018.
His clinical interests cover nuclear medicine diagnosis and treatment methods, conventional nuclear medicine and PET-CT imaging, thyroid diseases including examination, biopsy and treatment, aerospace medicine, and aviation fitness-for-duty inspections.
Dr. Ofluoğlu has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals, with research spanning receptor scintigraphy and novel radiopharmaceuticals, radionuclide therapy, radiation synovectomy, patient radiation dosimetry, myocardial perfusion PET and thyroid disease. His work has appeared in journals including the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Nuklearmedizin, Thyroid and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Turkish Nuclear Medicine Association, the European Society of Nuclear Medicine, the Aviation Medicine Association and the Aerospace Medicine Platform.
