Assoc. Prof. Dr. Demet AYGÜN ÜSTEL

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Demet Aygün Üstel is a neurologist currently practicing in the Department of Neurology at Biruni University Faculty of Medicine, with a clinical focus on headache, movement disorders, neuromodulation, sleep disorders, and epilepsy. She completed her medical education at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine (1998–2004), followed by a period in the Department of Pathology at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (2005–2006) and her Neurology residency at the same institution (2007–2011). She later completed an MSc in Electroneurophysiology at Istanbul University's Institute of Health Sciences (2015–2019) and earned her Associate Professorship in Medicine in 2026. She practiced in the Department of Neurology at Istanbul Atlas University Faculty of Medicine from 2013 to 2026, before joining Biruni University Faculty of Medicine. Her clinical interests include headache and neuroscience-based algology, movement disorders, non-invasive neuromodulation (DBS), demyelinating diseases, sleep disorders, clinical electroneurophysiology, digital neurology and artificial intelligence applications, cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy, neuromuscular diseases, and dementia, and her research has produced a substantial body of international peer-reviewed publications spanning sleep medicine, epilepsy, headache, and neurodegenerative disease. She is a member of the Deep Brain Stimulation Society, the Global Migraine & Pain Society, BEYİNDER, the Electroneurophysiology Society, the group on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies in Neurology, the Turkish Neurological Society, the Turkish Sleep Medicine Society, and the Turkish Medical Association.
